House Tour

Note: This area is under construction (MAJOR construction),  so slap on your hard hat and be prepared for pictures to be missing, links to lead nowhere and this whole page to be generally useless. Just kidding... maybe.

Everyone with a blog even loosely based around houses, homes, home improvement, decorating, etc has to have a house tour right? Well, this is ours. If you want a quick snapshot of our house without digging through the whole blog, or you're looking to find the improvements we've made to a specific room in the house this would be where to look.

First, lets walk through the front yard.

This is what it looked like when we moved in:

And this is what it looks like now:

Very Phase One, but we still think it's miles beyond where we started. We began by taking out those scraggly, over-grown bushes. Then pulled up our slate walk. Brought in topsoil to raise the level of the yard to help with water pooling issues and in the process decided we didn't really need that second driveway. Once that was done, we had nine trees taken out, which really opened things up and helped our newly-seeded lawn flourish. We layed a new (but still temporary) slate path and repainted our cracked well, stripped the paint from the porch and steps, painted the front door a cheery yellow and repainted the porch floor.

Now, let's head inside!

The front door opens right into the living room, with the wall directly to the right also serving as a kind of hallway, leading to the bathroom and then beyond to the bedrooms.

Here's what the living room looked like when we moved in:

...and here's what it looks like now!

The very first thing we did, even before we moved all our boxes and bags and random Tupperware containers of valuables belongings in, was paint.

The room is Natural Gray in (finish?) by Behr and the trim was already white, but when we put up the Board and Batten we had it color matched; it came up Muslin by (check details), so we used that for the Board and Batten and to touch up any trim that has gotten scuffed or paint splattered.
The hardware in the room also got an update: the front door and closet changed from brass to oil-rubbed bronze (the latter courtesy of an amazing Goodwill find) and the wall hooks are a similar finish. A new couch, a painted coffee table, a bench and a yellow egg chair, and things are starting to come together.

Just off the living room is the kitchen, which looked like this when we bought the house...

And now it looks like this:

We first painted (Tin Roof by Behr in their Kitchen and Bath finish), then we put up shelves, found a table and some chairs, which we stained and bought a washer and dryer and installed those.

Off the other side of the living room is the bathroom.

Then...

And now...

We haven't done a whole lot in here aside from painting, hanging a shelf, tweaking the lighting fixture, and changing out the towel holder. Oh and dealing with some drain issues.

Step out of the bathroom and you're in what we call "the hallway", even though it hardly counts. But we have painted and continued the Board and Batten through here.

At the end of the hall is our bedroom. It was pretty much just a beige box when we moved in, so we won't bore you with a "before" picture.

But here it is now:

We painted, added a light kit (link) to the ceiling fan, hung some art (bumble bee), got a second-hand dresser and updated it a little, hung a shelf and painted a nightstand. We've also left the Banner (link) that I made before Alice was born up above our bed. We're sentimental about it and it fills the space nicely...for now.

Next door to our bedroom is Grayson's bedroom. (Which was also just a beige box.)

And now...

It's a yellow box that a toy store exploded in. Har-har, I'm kidding...sort of...you should see it some days...
Anyway, we painted, hung some curtains, painted the closet and added shelves inside, brought in a bed and updated the headboard, started an accent wall (and then decided to repaint), added a light kit to the ceiling fan and then decided to redo half of that and so we're starting all over again.

Well, that's our house so far. We'll update this page as we go along so you can keep up with our house  without reading all of those pesky blog posts...
